LEGAZPI CITY – At least 215 applicants were hired on the spot during the job fair here Tuesday, participated in by 54 local companies, seven overseas agencies and 18 government agencies.

The job hunt was spearheaded by the Legazpi City Public Employment Services Office (PESO) in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Department of Migrant Workers and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

“I am very thankful to all the partner government agencies and companies that offered jobs to uplift the lives of the people. This job fair can also give opportunities to job seekers who want to work abroad,” Mayor Geraldine Rosal said in her message.

She said TESDA can also provide livelihood and skills training to those who want to engage in business or increase their chances of getting hired.

Meanwhile, Rosal said the Children International Bicol Inc., a non-government organization based in the United States, handed cash incentives and gift certificates to the applicants who were hired on the spot.

Legazpi City PESO Manager Diosdado Raneses said 1,395 applicants flocked to the jobs fair.

In the same event, Rosal and DOLE-Bicol Officer in Charge Imelda Romanillos signed a memorandum of agreement for the implementation of the Jobstart Philippines program.

The initiative aims to shorten the youth’s school-to-work transition by enhancing their knowledge and skills acquired in formal education or technical training to become more responsive to the demands of the labor market. (PNA)
