6 senators to join Negros Or. jubilee celebration

DUMAGUETE CITY – Five senators are arriving in Negros Oriental on Friday as they join the 100th-anniversary celebration of the provincial capitol.

Senators Imee Marcos, Risa Hontiveros, Francis Tolentino, Jinggoy Estrada, Lito Lapid and Mark Villar will be the event’s special guests and speakers, said Provincial Tourism Executive Director Woodrow Maquiling Jr.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is expected to attend the activities as both Negros provinces and Siquijor are being proposed to be placed under one region or the Negros Island region.

One of the highlights of the celebration is the installation of the commemorative marker at the Capitol to mark the jubilee year to be led by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).

Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria will lead ceremonies on Friday afternoon at the Capitol grounds, where he will officially launch the multi-million peso new government center.

Filipina songbird Kuh Ledesma is also invited to grace the activity.

Several activities have been lined up for the Capitol building’s jubilee year, including the commemorative centennial pyro-musical competition and a best photo and same-day edit video contest, and others. PNA
