The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) hosted a significant event, the Peer Review Team field visit from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Shipbuilding Committee (OECD-SBC) in the Philippines on 22 October 2024. This visit was a crucial step in our shared journey towards maritime development.

The meetings and discussions started at the Philippine Port Authority (PPA), respectively, with MARINA and the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD).

The PPA presented to the OECD Peer Review Team an overview of their Agency, accomplishments for CY 2023, identification of ports nationwide, and efforts to enhance marine environment protection and compliance with international conventions, among other things.

During the meeting in MARINA, Planning and Policy Service Director Luisito Delos Santos presented the Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) 2028, which covers the Core Program on Modernization, Expansion, and Promotion of the Philippine Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Industry. Meanwhile, Domestic Shipping Service Director Atty. Maria Rowena Hubilla and Shipyard Development and Licensing Division Chief Engr. Maria Teresa Mamisao discussed the current situation of domestic shipping and SBSR sectors, respectively.

Further, OECD Shipbuilding Unit Head Laurent Daniel and Junior Policy Analyst Emilie Berger discussed various maritime R&D projects, the industry's challenges, and the process of approving proposals related to improving the SBSR sector with PCIEERD.

The day concluded with the Stakeholders' Forum, which was attended by SBSR associations and other private sector representatives. The forum discussed SBSR associations' different plans and programs, the Philippine maritime industry outlook, and other SBSR matters.
