Abalos to employers: Be humane during calamities

By Tony Chavez

Former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos appealed to employers to be as humane as possible during natural calamities following the onslaught of tropical storm Kristine and the looming threat of another weather disturbance, tropical storm Leon.

Abalos shared the sentiment of Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma that private employers should not reprimand or discipline employees who will fail to report for work because of the bad weather.

Abalos, who is eyeing a Senate seat, said the companies should still prioritize the safety and welfare of employees and workers.

Classes and government work in Luzon were suspended on October 23 due to the heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Kristine.

Usually, it is at the discretion of private company employers whether work will also be suspended in their firms.
