THOUGH in the threshold of the next round, San Miguel Beer intends to just stick to its strength and play its game in a bid to complete the job versus Converge.
Coach Jorge Gallent stresses it's not about a sweep but just getting the job done as the Beermen resume their chase of a PBA Governors' Cup semifinals berth versus beleaguered foe Converge on Monday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
"I'm sure they're gonna come out strong. We have to stay focused, bring the energy and not think about the 2-0 lead. We have to think it's a do or die so we'd not relax but come out strong and play 48 minutes of basketball," said Gallent.
Game time is at 7:30 p.m. with the Beermen not looking far ahead but just on this particular game at hand as Gallent feels Converge is a dangerous team to be given the opening.
"Converge is a strong team with a good import. We're just playing better in the last six minutes which is good; our composure is always there come the endgame. We have to stick where we're good at," said Gallent.
True enough, the Beermen were just winning in the end, taking Game One at 102-95 and the next at 107-100.
A big part in each match was prized import sub EJ Anosike who's having fun playing with June Mar Fajardo and Co.
And Anosike said he's excited to go on with the ride and pursue an opportunity to achieve something special with the team he's very well aware of its winning culture.
Anosike said they're banking on "strength in unity."
He himself isn't counting Converge out.
"The series isn't over. Every game counts and every game matters," said Anosike to stress the need to keep pushing and withstand the tough fight Converge is likely to put up.
Last time, the Beermen saw the rallying FiberXers come to within one but Anosike and his teammates hung tough to make the series a 2-0 affair.
"I think it was a good effort by the team. When everyone plays well, the energy is contagious. For me, it's my second game here. I'm happy to be with this great group of guys and go out and compete and I look forward to getting better after every game," said Anosike.
"We did better now. We were really composed, especially in the last six minutes of the ball game. We are only up by one and the players really found a way to win now. They played their hearts out in the stretch and that's why we got the victory," said Gallent.
With that, the Beermen moved on cusp of the semis, having three cracks to finish off the FiberXers.(SB)
