Young English star Jude Bellingham secured a vital 1-0 victory for England against Serbia in the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (EURO 2024) on Sunday.
Some tension was expected at the match as according to local reports, there were several clashes between Serbia and England fans in the German city of Gelsenkirchen before it kicked off.
Bellingham's header brought the lead to England in the 13th minute at Arena AufSchalke.
Serbian forward Filip Kostic had to come off due to an injury in the 45th minute, just before the end of the first half.
England goalie Jordan Pickford barely denied Aleksandar Mitrovic's goal attempt in the 58th minute.
Striker Harry Kane missed a chance to double the lead for England as his header came back from the post in the 77th minute.
Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic's effective long shot was tipped over by Pickford in the 82nd minute.
England occupy the top spot in Group C with three points while Serbia are in fourth place without any points.
Meanwhile, there was no winner in the Group C showdown between Denmark and Slovenia, which ended 1-1 at 2024 UEFA European Football Championship (EURO 2024) on Sunday.
