BAGUIO CITY – At least 1,146 individuals were served during the day-long outreach activity of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) held at the popular Session Road on Sunday.
Among the services and items provided during the activity, part of BJMP’s Community Relations Month celebrations, are medical consultations, dental awareness and hygiene kits, blood sugar testing, legal services, blood pressure check, human immunodeficiency virus testing, books, and Father’s Day gifts.
Staff of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center blood bank said they collected 22 bags of assorted blood types.
“It is time to give back to our community by utilizing the profession and expertise of our personnel with the help of partners,” J/Supt. April Rose Ayangwa said in an interview.
She said the activity is in line with the Marcos administration’s Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) thrust of bringing the government closer to the communities.
Products like brooms and bags made by persons deprived of liberty were sold, with the proceeds to be remitted directly to the makers.
Ayangwa said BJMP regularly joins the Sunday market along Session Road, which is closed for vehicular traffic once a week to make way for different performances and local micro, small, and medium enterprises selling products. PNA
