Blazers seek to keep NCAA lead

College of St. Benilde (CSB) seeks to keep the lead when it battles Lyceum of the Philippines University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 100 men's basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan on Friday.

The Blazers (4-1) will be missing point guard Jhomel Ancheta, who was meted a one-game suspension for hitting the back of Pao Javillonar's head during the game won by the Knights, 71-69, last Sunday.

"We play a great offensive team in Lyceum so I hope we are ready to defend," said CSB coach Charles Tiu.

CSB and Lyceum clash at 2:30 p.m. with the Pirates eyeing a fourth straight victory after a stunning 96-81 upset of last year’s runner-up Mapua last Tuesday.

Winston Ynot, Allen Liwag, and Mark Sangco will spearhead the Blazers, while John Barba, Mclaude Guadaña and Jonathan Daileg will banner the Pirates, who are tied for third with the Cardinals and the San Beda Red Lions at 3-2.

Meanwhile, Mapua will take on San Sebastian College-Recoletos at 12 noon.

The Stags, seeking to end a slump, are in a three-way tie for fifth place with the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers and the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals at 2-4.

Leading Mapua are Clint Escarmis, Jeco Bancale, Lawrence Mangubat and Chris Hubilla while San Sebastian will rely on Ameer Aguilar, Harold Ricio and Rafael Are. (PNA)
