Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio has directed the Bureau's Intelligence Group Deputy Commissioner Juvymax R. Uy to initiate a comprehensive fact-finding investigation following reports of alleged recycling and resale of seized vape products. These items were recently confiscated and reportedly placed under a "safekeeping order" via a Mission Order.
The Commissioner's directive aims to verify the validity of these allegations and identify any BOC personnel involved, along with their individual and collective roles in the matter. The investigation will also assess any potential administrative and criminal liabilities associated with these claims.
The Intelligence Group has been instructed to submit weekly status reports and a detailed fact-finding report within 30 days of receipt of the order.
In response to the Commissioner's directive, the Intelligence Group has reiterated its commitment to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation. This dedication is a testament to the Group's professionalism and the seriousness with which it approaches its responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Rubio assures the public that the counterfeit goods recently seized in Binondo, Manila, valued at approximately PHP 11 billion, are secure. These goods will undergo the appropriate seizure and forfeiture procedures by the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and other relevant regulations.
The BOC, under the leadership of Commissioner Rubio, is firm in its commitment to ensuring transparency, integrity, credibility, and, most of all, accountability within its purview. Upholding these vital principles is the Bureau's utmost priority to foster a culture of trust and ethical governance.
