Budgeting the country’s workforce. Sen. Loren Legarda, during Thursday’s Finance Subcommittee G hearing, September 5, 2024, on the proposed 2025 budget of the Department of Labor, and Employment (DOLE) and its attached agencies, stresses the critical role the agency plays in the lives of millions of Filipinos. Despite this, the 2025 budget of the department amounting to more than P45 billion as proposed in the National Expenditure Program is 26.09 percent from the current budget of P61 billion. “The mandate of DOLE goes beyond mere regulation; it is the lifeblood of our nation’s workforce, safeguarding their rights, ensuring their welfare, and fostering the creation of decent and sustainable employment opportunities,” Legarda said. “As we review the budget, it is crucial that we focus on how we can further enhance the impact of DOLE’s programs and services. We must ensure that every peso allocated contributes to building a resilient, adaptive, and empowered Filipino workforce, one that is prepared to meet the demands of a rapidly changing global economy,” she added.
