BUTUAN CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13) said 58 livelihood projects under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) and the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) program were already released to seven towns and one city in Surigao del Norte.
In a statement on Monday, the DSWD-13 said the SLP projects were released during the series of distribution activities conducted from May 30 until June 15 this year. “The 58 SLP and PAMANA projects had a total worth of P23,445,000 and aimed to improve the socio-economic conditions of the program participants in Surigao del Norte,” the agency said.
It added around 1,671 program participants will directly benefit from the projects from the towns of Alegria, Mainit, Tubod, Tagana-an, San Francisco, Malimono and Surigao City in Surigao del Norte.
Meanwhile, the DSWD-13 also reported the release of family food packs (FFPs) to 987 farmers who were directly affected by El Niño in five barangays in Tubay, Agusan del Norte.
The food augmentation, the agency said, aimed to support the farming families in the area whose agricultural crops were severely affected by the prolonged drought caused by the El Niño phenomenon.
Each farmer from Barangays Sta. Ana, Doña Telesfora, Doña Rosario, Victory, and Tagmamarkay received a box of FFP during the distribution activity conducted on Friday last week.
“The DSWD will continue to distribute the same assistance in the following weeks to fisherfolk in the coastal barangays of Tubay whose livelihoods were also hit by the long drought,” the agency said. PNA
