The implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum will continue but the revised study program will be amended based on the experience of teachers and students, Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara said on Friday.
“So, whatever the learnings are for that first year, we will — kung baga iterative iyong process,” Angara said in an interview over Malacañang Insider.
“Meaning, we are willing to change as we go along, as we learn from the experience of actual — on the ground and then we get feedback din from our teachers saka ‘yung estudyante, ano ang kailangang baguhin, anong puwedeng pagandahin,” he said.
The DepEd chief noted the revised curriculum is a product of several years of study.
“We continue it. This is the product of several years of studying. And the direction, we are continuing direction,” Angara said.
The MATATAG Agenda was launched as the new direction of the DepEd towards improving the quality of basic education in the country, according to a DepEd memorandum issued last year.
To help attain the commitments articulated in the MATATAG Agenda, the Education department has adopted DepEd Order (DO) No. 013, issued in 2023 or the Adoption of the National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP). This includes the implementation of the revised curriculum, otherwise known as the MATATAG Curriculum.
Among the features of the MATATAG Curriculum are decongested curriculum, focus on foundational skills, balanced cognitive skills, balanced cognitive demands, clearer articulation of 21st-century skills, reduced learning areas, intensified values and peace education, and at par with international standards.
The revised curriculum will be implemented in phases with School Year 2024-2025 for Kindergarten, Grades, 1, 4, and 7; School Year 2025-2026 for Grades 2, 5, and 8; School Year 2026-2027 for Grades 3, 6, and 9; and School Year 2027-2028 for Grade 10. | PND
