The Department of Health (DOH), through Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, graced the Provincial Health Officers (PHO) Association of the Philippines' annual Universal Health Care and Health Care Providers Network Implementation Conference and Learning Forum on October 10, 2024, to highlight the role of provincial health officers in improving health outcomes and reducing healthcare disparities.
The Health Chief underscored how the body has contributed to strengthening the bridge in significant gaps in healthcare, particularly in achieving adequate ratios of beds, nurses, and midwives to patients across provinces. He further pinpointed that under the Health Sector’s 8-Point Action Agenda, the DOH envisions policy alignment and collaboration among stakeholders nationwide, aiming for the Philippines to rank among the healthiest nations in Asia by 2040, following the goals of the Universal Healthcare Act.
Present at the event are PHO Association of the Philippines National President Dr. Anna Ma. Theresa S. De Guzman, the PHOs, and other esteemed representatives from organizations.
"We are elated to be part of this convention as our Provincial Health Officers are pivotal in making UHC for every Filipino a reality. The DOH alone cannot accomplish the primary care outcomes which are Immunization, Nutrition, Maternal Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Tuberculosis, Road Safety, and Noncommunicable diseases control, prevention, and detection. Under the UHC, these core results can only be achieved if we are closely working together with our PHOs for these collective goals dahil sa Bagong Pilipinas, Bawat Buhay Mahalaga," expressed Secretary Herbosa.
