Lyceum of the Philippines University relied on wing spiker Johna Denise Dolorito in the fourth set to prevail over University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 25-18, 25-15, 18-25, 25-22, in the 2024 Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-season Championship at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday.
Dolorito scored 16 points, including 10 in the deciding set, as the Lady Pirates closed out their campaign in Pool B with a 2-2 record.
Perpetual scored three straight points, the last one coming from Cyrille Almeniana, to grab the lead at 20-19.
But Dolorito retaliated with three points and Joan Doguna added one to put Lyceum ahead, 23-21.
Almeniana delivered a crosscourt attack to make it 22-23. However, Dolorito and Janeth Tulang both scored on a smash as the Lady Pirates wrapped up the match in one hour and 48 minutes.
“We struggled with our consistency especially in the third set, our service receive fluctuated a little, we cannot follow our defense, that's what we're trying to fix in training,” said Dolorito, who had 14 attacks and two aces.
Doguna contributed 11 points, including six in the first set, while Tulang scored six of her 10 attacks in the fourth set.
Almeniana led the Lady Altas with 19 points on 15 attacks and four aces, scoring eight points in the fourth quarter despite spraining her right ankle.
