Locals and tourists in Northern Samar now enjoy safer and faster travel with the completion of a key road improvement project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) along the Catarman-Laoang Road in Laoang.
The ₱29.3 million project involves the widening of road from two (2) to four (4) lanes, concreting of 3.23 kilometers of road shoulders on both sides, and installation of 56 solar-powered LED streetlights to enhance safety for both day and night travel.
DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon reported that the project began in February and was completed in July of 2024, or about two months ahead of its targeted schedule.
“This project supports not just motorized vehicle users but also pedestrians, especially the farmers and fishermen, who can now bring their goods and commodities to nearby public markets at any time of day,” added Directo.r Tabacon.
Implemented by DPWH Northern Samar Second District Engineering Office, the newly-improved Catarman-Laoang Road serves as an important link between the coastal municipalities of Pambujan and Laoang, fostering agriculture and increasing employment opportunities for locals.
