The number of drug-affected barangays in Northern Mindanao region has dropped to 308, according to the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) on Tuesday.
In a statement, the ROCBDC reported the figure is out of 1,866 barangays initially identified as drug-affected in the region.
The committee noted that 1,558 barangays have already been declared cleared of illegal drugs, with five more barangays in Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and Lanao del Norte provinces added to the cleared list before the end of September.
The ROCBDC is composed of representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Brig. Gen. Jaysen de Guzman, acting director of the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao, credited the reduction to strong collaboration between communities and law enforcement agencies.
“We are resolute in our commitment to eradicating illegal drugs in Northern Mindanao,” de Guzman said. (PNA)
