Drug smuggler nabbed in N. Afghanistan

Police arrested a drug smuggler and discovered 30 kg of opium poppy from his possession in the northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province on Saturday, the provincial police said on Sunday.

The drug smuggler was attempting to take the contraband outside the province. He was identified and taken to police custody for further investigations.

Opium poppy has been largely used in manufacturing heroin. Afghanistan's caretaker government has banned poppy cultivation, processing and trafficking.
