The Export Development Council (EDC)—through the Department of Trade and Industry’s Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB) and the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PHILEXPORT)—launched the rollout of the Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP) in Cebu and Davao through “Usapang Exports” information sessions. In collaboration with the DTI-Regional Operations Group, this initiative is part of the nationwide effort to engage and empower exporters across the Philippines.
The Davao session equipped local firms with tools to navigate the global market. Key topics included financing initiatives for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which are pivotal in enabling these businesses to start, expand, and compete globally. Participants also learned about opportunities to leverage promotional platforms and trade fairs overseas, providing vital exposure for their products on the global stage.
“This is a concrete way to assist our exporters, especially MSMEs, in continuously preparing, upgrading, and expanding their capabilities to meet evolving global requirements. It also represents a more meaningful engagement as our government partners actively participate in consultation and advocacy alongside us,” said PHILEXPORT President Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis Jr.
In addition, attendees gained valuable insights into key government programs, including the DTI-Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development’s Shared Services Facilities, the Design Center of the Philippines’ design services, and the ASEAN Regional Integration Support by the EU (ARISE+) Philippines’ programs.
Meanwhile, exporters benefited from one-on-one counseling sessions with trade regulatory agencies, enabling them to gain deeper understanding of compliance requirements and optimize their export processes.
The next sessions of the PEDP rollout are scheduled for Cagayan de Oro on October 2, General Santos City on October 4, Metro Manila on October 10, and Laguna on October 16, 2024. Exporters across the country are encouraged to participate and leverage the government programs and services available to support their international business ventures.
Under the DTI-EMB's Philippine Export Competitiveness Program, the “Usapang Exports” information sessions are designed to strengthen the competitiveness of Philippine exporters. Through seminars, capacity-building initiatives, and direct engagement with local stakeholders, this participatory program highly involves manufacturers and service providers throughout the process.
