"The younger generation of Filipinos will propel the Philippines forward," shared Rep. Camille Villar during her address to this year's graduates, particularly the students of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU).
The Las Piñas lawmaker urged the newly graduates to remain hopeful and steadfast amid future challenges, emphasizing their crucial role in shaping the nation's future.
Addressing the 61st commencement exercises in Borongan City, Villar said, "My dear graduates, our country needs you. You are our future. The Philippines requires your energy, talents, knowledge and passion to advance. As we confront numerous challenges, we rely on you to contribute to your families, communities and government, thereby making the world a better place."
Drawing from her experiences in business and public service, as CEO of ALL Value Group and managing director of Vista Land, Villar imparted a valuable lesson: "Change does not occur in a single monumental moment; it evolves gradually through the actions of good people in every corner of society. It begins with you, within your families, and your circle."
She also encouraged graduates to persevere despite challenges in entering the workforce.
"Failure should not be in your DNA. Never let setbacks deter you. There will be challenges ahead. Keep fighting. Learn from mistakes, bounce back stronger, and strive harder than anyone else. Dreaming is essential, but achieving those dreams demands determination, perseverance and diligence," the solon said.
To guide graduates in their journey, the House deputy speaker urged them to discover their inspirations and let these fuel their dreams and define their path.
"While aiming for material success, remember to seek purpose and destiny. Once found, nurture it with dedication and hard work. Your journey begins now. Do not give up; keep hope alive."
Closing with a quote from Jose Rizal, she reminded them, "'On the battlefield, man has no better weapon than his intelligence, no other force but his heart.' Rizal referred not only to war but also to life's battles. Intelligence and heart will pave your way forward."
"As you close this chapter at ESSU and embark on the challenging journey of adulting, the next phase will be exhilarating, adventurous and at times daunting. Rest assured, your education at ESSU has equipped you with knowledge, skills, and values needed for success," she concluded.
