MANILA – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday presented to the media a former person deprived of liberty (PDL) and a corrections officer implicated in the gruesome kidnap-for-ransom and killing of a mother and her son in Baesa, Quezon City in June.
The NBI Homicide Division said ex-PDL Raymond David Reyes and Correction Officer I Pio Jonathan Eulalio shot to death Christian Razon Ortega, 40, on June 10.
They then abducted and killed his mother, Gloria, 70.
Gloria’s remains were recovered from a muddy ravine beside a dump site in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Bay, Laguna.
The two suspects were arrested on July 11 and 12, respectively, and identified an employee of the victims, Vergel Olanda, as their conspirator.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago said investigations disclosed that the group planned the crime upon the proposal of Olanda, whom Reyes and Eulalio met at the Quezon City Jail.
Based on the series of events pieced together by authorities, the victims were on board a white van traveling along L.R. Pascual Street in Barangay Baesa in the early hours of June 10 when the suspects, on board a black sports utility vehicle, blocked them in front of Lucas R. Pascual Memorial Elementary School.
Christian tried to maneuver in an effort to escape, but the suspects fired at them, killing him. The assailants then took Gloria’s money amounting to PHP100,000 and abducted her.
The suspects immediately left the scene and traveled around Pampanga, Tagaytay and Laguna.
Later that afternoon, the suspects demanded PHP5 million in ransom money, but later decided to just kill Gloria. (PNA)
