Falcons AP Bren took down Team Liquid Philippines with a 2-0 sweep in a rematch of last season's MPL Philippines Grand Finals on Saturday night at the Green Sun Hotel Ballroom in Makati.
In the highly-anticipated showdown between the last two M Series world champions now looming to be called the new esports version of the "Manila Clasico", Falcons AP Bren turned to a huge Lord kill in Game 1 before outlasting the franchise formerly known as Bren in a marathon Game 2 to keep in step in the MPL Philippines leaderboard.
Despite Liquid PH taking two turtle kills to gain some advantage midway into Game 1, Falcons AP Bren outplayed them in the team fight within the Lord zone and took the kill of the mini-boss.
Feeling confident, Falcons AP Bren decided to go for the jugular and destroyed Liquid PH's base in just barely 16 minutes.
In Game 2, Liquid PH, despite trailing by more than 10,000 gold midway through, managed to take the second Lord and came close to turning the game around.
However, some missteps in the third Lord fight sealed their fate as Falcons AP Bren restored order, took the third Lord, and finished off the match after a shade under 36 minutes, the longest game this season.
Falcons AP Bren moved up to solo second at 4-1, one match behind league-leading Fnatic Onic Philippines.
Fnatic Onic PH swept surging Smart Omega, 2-0, earlier in the night to stay unbeaten at 5-0.
Smart Omega fell to a tie for third place with league newcomer Aurora Gaming at 3-2, half a game ahead of the 2-2 Liquid PH.
The other Saturday night tie saw RSG Philippines keeping Blacklist International winless with a 2-0 sweep as well.
RSG Philippines solidified its hold of sixth place at 2-3, while Blacklist further dropped to 0-5, crashing to last place. (PNA)
