Fine-tuning UHC Law. Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito fine-tunes Senate Bill No. 2620, or An Act Amending Republic Act No. 11223, otherwise known as the Universal Health Care Act, by introducing amendment to the proposed measure.
During Wednesday’s plenary session, August 21, 2024, Ejercito, sponsor of the bill, specified the amendment on page 3, under the premium rate table for the year 2024, changing the four percent to five percent.
“This amendment will, in effect, retain the current premium rate for year 2024 as reflected in the original provision of Section 10 of RA 11223,” Ejercito said. “Since we are almost in the last quarter of this year and we are still deliberating the proposed measure, it will be difficult to refund the payment collected from the PhilHealth members for the period of January up to the time that this bill will be enacted into law. Thus the reduced premium rate, as amended by the Senate Minority leader and deputy minority leader, will become effective starting from year 2025 onward,” he added.
