German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund announced Friday that German defender Mats Hummels will leave the club.
"Borussia Dortmund fans, my time at the Black & Yellows has come to an end after 13 years in total," said Hummels in a statement published by the German club.
"It was a huge honor and a joy for me to play for BVB for such a long time, and to be almost ever-present on the journey from 13th place in the table in January 2008 to what Borussia Dortmund represents today. This club and its fans are special – and for me they're much more than that."
Borussia Dortmund's sports director Lars Ricken said, "Mats was one of the driving forces behind Borussia Dortmund over the last 15 years. He won lots of trophies, and without question his personal crowning achievement was winning the World Cup in 2014."
The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner, who netted five goals in 78 appearances for Germany, bagged six Bundesliga titles, four with Bayern Munich and two with Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund announced on Friday that Nuri Sahin succeeded Edin Terzic as head coach of the German football club on a three-year contract.
"It is a great honour for me to be head coach of Borussia Dortmund. I would like to thank everyone on the club’s senior management team for the faith they have shown in me, and I am hugely looking forward to my new role at BVB," Sahin said after the signing ceremony.
"From day one we will do everything we can and work with energy and passion to make this club as successful as possible," the Turkish manager added.
Sahin, a former Dortmund midfielder, played 274 competitive games for The Black and Yellow, scoring 26 goals.
During his playing career, the 35-year-old won the Bundesliga in 2011 and the DFB Cup in 2017.
From 2021 to 2023, he managed Turkish Super Lig club Antalyaspor, and in Jan. 2024, he returned to Borussia Dortmund as an assistant coach.
He also lifted the 2012 Spanish La Liga title with Real Madrid. Anadolu
