Helping communities hit by natural disasters by bringing people together

In the aftermath of a natural disaster or violent weather event, entire communities can be displaced, destroyed, and in need of help. Fortunately, many people find these as opportunities to be in touch with others who have had similar experiences, which is a source of unique understanding and mutual support.

At the height of the recent Super Typhoon Carina, homegrown motorcycle taxi (MC Taxi) firm Angkas, led by chief executive officer George Royeca, almost spontaneously brought together a community of bikers and conducted welfare checks in key Metro Manila cities.

"Our bikers are part of our family. It's crucial to look after our family, particularly through challenging periods like what we're experiencing. I hope our actions have offered them some relief and encouragement to recover from the aftermath of Typhoon Carina," Royeca stated.

The Angkas team not only provided moral support but also relief assistance to the bikers, understanding that the extreme weather prevented them from earning their livelihood during stormy days.

Royeca and his team extended aid to move more than 1,000 biker families within Pasay, Manila, and Taguig cities. The relief assistance included rain gear, financial aid, grocery supplies, and Xteer engine oil to the riders.

Beyond distributing necessities, Royeca facilitated wellness forums to engage with the bikers directly, emphasizing the company's support and solidarity.

Moreover, Angkas offers complimentary motorcycle repairs at the Tagumpay Center for those whose bikes suffered damage from the rain. The firm also implemented Signal Zero, an initiative that reduces Angkas commissions to zero percent. This allowed bikers to keep the entirety of a day's fares, mitigating the storm's financial impact.

A member of the biker fleet expressed gratitude towards Angkas and Royeca, stating, “Salamat, Boss George. Talagang ramdam naming mga biker ang pagmamahal at pag-alaga niyo sa amin. Angkas lang malakas.”

Ths sentiment was widely shared among the biker partners on social media, reflecting their appreciation for the company's efforts and Royeca's leadership.

Bikers impacted by the flood are encouraged to seek assistance from the company.
