Highlighting a new trend: Halal-Friendly TourismTravel ale Expo ‘24 opens various opportunities

The Travel Sale Expo (TSE) 2024, one of the much anticipated travel event of the year once again unveiled an extravagant travel expo last September 27 to 29, 2024 at the SM Megatrade Hall, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

The annual Travel Sale Expo (TSE) drew in more than 40,000 visitors in its three-day run, matching pre-pandemic numbers. TSE Chairman Michelle G. Taylan said in her speech that she is confident that the 2nd Travel Sale Expo will bring “huge economic boost” not only in the tourism industry but to the whole business industry. In attendance during the Opening ceremony and ribbon cutting were Oneklik President Raj Joshua Bangi; Chairperson of the Committee on Tourism, House of Representatives, Eleandro Jesus F. Madrona; Tourism Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar; Department of Transportation Undersecretary of Aviation & Airports Atty. Roberto C.O. Lim; Foreign Affairs Acting Secretary and Undersecretary for Migration Affairs Eduardo Jose A. de Vega; Mayor of Malay, Aklan Honorable Frolibar Bautista; Mayor of Baybay City, Leyte Honorable Jose Carlos L. Cari; and Philippine Retirement Authority COO Bob Zozobrado. Senator Win Gatchalian also showed his support through a taped message and Senator Loren Legarda through emailed message read by Usec. Myra Paz Abubakr on her behalf. Brunei Darussalam Ambassador H.E. Megawat Manan, Cambodia Ambassador H.E. Phan Peuv, Taiwan Ambassador Representative H.E. Wallace Chow, Indonesia Ambassador H.E. Agus Widjojo, Israel Ambassador H.E. Ilan Fluss, Laos Ambassador H.E. Sonexay Vannaxay, Malaysia Ambassador H.E. Dato Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, Vietnam Ambassador Lai Thai Binh, Counsellor-Minister and Head of Section, Consul of the Republic of Poland Monika Kończyk, and Chargé d'Affaires a.i. San Yu Kyaw, Brazil Counsellor Mr. Gerson Gimenes also joined the opening ceremony.

With this year’s theme, “Experience the World, Travel is Life,” Taylan encourages everyone to enjoy life and travel. For Taylan, there is so much to see, learn, and explore in the Philippines and other countries.

To cater the various needs of the travelling public, The Travel Sale Expo 2024 assembled more than 170 exhibitors occupying about 200 booths. Lined up of exhibitors represent the entire travel industry such as airlines, hotels, travel agencies, cruise liners, resorts, tour operators, insurance companies, and embassies. Also joined the event are Department of Tourism (DOT) Philippines-NCR, Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) and HOHO as event partners.

For this year, TSE 2024 has put up a number of retail outlets offering travel accessories such as travelling bags and other travel essentials Finally, for wedding planners there is a booth that provides wedding supplies and assistance to organize a successful wedding event. To add fun and excitement, TSE have arranged several games, raffles prizes and entertainment programs. Heading the list are cultural performances from the Korean Cultural Office, Kpop dances and Kpop singing competition “K-POP Got Talent Season1. To top it all, a local stand up comedian was there to delight the crowd and bring out the fun and laughter during 2nd day of the event.

The event also featured new additions to the program, including the first TSE Philippine Halal Friendly forum attended by various tourism stakeholders. In addition, South East Asian nations like Laos and Brunie have joined the TSE 2024 to aggressively promote their country among Filipino travelers. Interestingly, these countries have rich cultural heritage and iconic landmarks that could rival top tourist sites in other countries. Moreover, even the world-renowned Boracay island is positioning itself as a halal-friendly destination to attract muslim tourists locally and internationally. Unionbank of the Philippines is the Co-presentor for Travel Sale Expo 2024 with major sponsors Gcash Philippines, UTOL, Hotel 101 and Southwest tours while United Airlines, Airasia Philippines, Aero-K, Saudia Airlines and Royal Air are the Airline partners.
