Hosts Germany defeat Hungary to qualify for EURO 2024 Round of 16

Hosts Germany became the first team to advance to the EURO 2024 Round of 16 with a 2-0 win over Hungary on Wednesday.

  Playing at Stuttgart Arena, Jamal Musiala made a close-range finish, placing Germany ahead as Ilkay Gundogan assisted him in the 22nd minute.

  Roland Sallai leveled the game for Hungary in additional time at the end of the first half, but this was disallowed by video assistant referee (VAR) due to an offside call.

  Germany doubled the lead when captain Gundogan scored a goal from inside the penalty area in minute 67.

  With this result, Germany raised its total points to six, while Hungary remained at the bottom of Group A without a single point.

Scotland were held to a 1-1 draw with Switzerland in a EURO 2024 Group A match on Wednesday.

  The Scottish side broke the deadlock with a close-range kick from Scott McTominay in the 13th minute at Cologne Stadium in Germany.

  In the 26th minute, Xherdan Shaqiri scored a long-range rocket to bring  Switzerland level against Scotland.

  Dan Ndoye scored for the Swiss team in the 33rd minute, but this was disallowed by the video assistant referee (VAR) due to an offside call.

  Switzerland's Breel Embolo produced a goal in the 82nd minute, but it was also ruled offside.

  Earlier on Wednesday, Germany increased their points to six after beating Hungary 2-0 in Group A.

  Switzerland are second with four points, Scotland are third with one point and Hungary remained at the bottom of the group without a single point.

  Albania's Klaus Gjasula struck late Wednesday to salvage a crucial 2 - 2 draw with Croatia in Group B of EURO 2024.

  Qazim Laci scored a header to put Albania 1 - 0 up on Croatia in the 11th minute in Hamburg's Volksparkstadion. Jasir Asani had an assist on the goal.

  The Croatians leveled with a close-range finish from Andrej Kramaric in the 74th minute.

  Croatia took the lead two minutes later when Gjasula scored an own goal.

  Gjasula redeemed himself when he netted a last-minute equalizer in stoppage time from close range to keep Albania alive.
