Power distribution utility firm Manila Electric Company (Meralco) on Monday reached out to the crucial participants of the Interruptible Load Program (ILP), emphasizing their significant role in preparing for possible de-loading, should the situation escalate to Red Alert.
"We also urge the public to keep practicing energy efficiency to help manage the demand," Meralco spokesperson and head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said.
Zaldarriaga made the appeal as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon Grid under yellow alert on Monday afternoon and evening due to a forced outage and derated capacity of some plants.
The NGCP issues a yellow alert when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.
The NGCP issued an advisory and stated that the yellow alert would be implemented from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This is due to the deration of Masinloc 1, Calaca 2, and Ilijan A plants; unavailability of Angat Main due to low water elevation; and forced outage of QPPL, Pagbilao 2, and Sual 1 plants, the company said.
Zaldarriaga reassured the public that Meralco is fully prepared to handle any contingencies, aiming to mitigate the impact of the yellow alert and serve its customers more efficiently. "Rest assured, we will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide necessary updates if needed," he added.
