Keeping the 'Bayanihan' spirit alive with 'Brigada Eskwela'

At the start of the school year, bankers and community leaders collaborated with the Department of Education to refurbish school buildings for the weeklong Brigada Eskwela.

City Savings Bank (CitySavings), the thrift bank of Aboitiz-led Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank), partnered with the DepEd and participated in the national kick-off at Carmen National High School in Carmen, Cebu, with the theme "Bayanihan para sa MATATAG na Paaralan."

"As bankers and community members, we are committed to the growth and transformation of the communities we serve. We take pride in our corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives' positive impact on the lives of our teachers, learners, and various stakeholders," shared CitySavings chief executive officer Lorenzo Ocampo.

Vice President and former Education Secretary Sara Duterte expressed her gratitude to teachers, parents, local government units, and the private sector for their active support of the MATATAG agenda.

Duterte emphasized the importance of Bayanihan and the collective effort needed to ensure the success of the national schools' maintenance week.

This year, CitySavings made a significant impact by assisting 240 schools nationwide. Our contributions included providing learning and teaching supplies, painting materials, technology equipment, emergency Go bag kits, and construction materials."

Brigada Eskwela, a cause that the Bank has actively supported since 2008, is in perfect alignment with CitySavings' mission. Our goal is to co-create a safe, empowered, and more sustainable teaching and learning environment, and Brigada Eskwela is a key part of that journey.
