Weather forecasters said tropical depression Kristine maintained her strength on Monday while moving westward and is expected to bring rains until Thursday.
In its latest advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Kristine could develop into a typhoon.
As of 10 a.m. on Monday, Kristine's eye was spotted 870 km East of Eastern Visayas while heading West-Southwestward at 30 km/h.
Kristine is seen to bring heavy rains in the provinces of Northern Samar, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur and affects the whole country, particularly Luzon.
Pagasa warned residents in the provinces Catanduanes, Masbate, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, Easter Quezon, Samar, Leyte, and Biliran to take precautionary measures. The Dinagat Islands and Surigao Del Norte in Mindanao are also expected to feel Kristine's strength.
Based on its current path, Kristine is forecasted to hit Northern Samar on Oct. 21, Catanduanes on Oct. 22, Aurora on Oct. 23, Isabela on Oct. 24, Cagayan on Oct. 25, and Ilocos Norte on Oct. 26.
The weather bureau has advised small boats not to set sail, while motorized bancas were advised to take precautionary measures when venturing into the seas.
Kristine is anticipated to cause significant damage to crops. Pagasa suggested that farmers harvest their crops before the typhoon strikes.
