Shohei Ohtani hit his 20th home run of the season before his Los Angeles Dodgers put up seven runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Colorado Rockies 11-9 on Tuesday.
Ohtani's 476-foot solo blast to center in the sixth, Major League Baseball's longest homer this year, cut the Rockies' lead to 7-3 while tying him with the Atlanta Braves' Marcell Ozuna for the most homers in the National League.
Ohtani connected on a 2-0 slider from left-hander Austin Gomber. The Dodgers have won three games in a row.
The 2023 American League home run leader with 44 for the Los Angeles Angels reached 20 for the fourth straight year. Ohtani finished the night 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
In the top of the ninth, with the Dodgers down to their last strike, Teoscar Hernandez launched a 2-2 pitch for a go-ahead three-run homer to right-center at Coors Field after Jason Heyward's one-out, pinch-hit grand slam pulled the Dodgers within a run.
"They just kept going on from there," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "Jason was ready when called upon to have a big pinch-hit grand slam, and then Shohei continues to be on fire, and then obviously Teo with that homer."
"It's just he (Hernandez) keeps coming up with big hits, so I just couldn't be more excited for our guys on the offensive side."
Ohtani, who also had an RBI groundout in the third inning, singled in the ninth between Heyward's grand slam and Hernandez's three-run home run.
The Rockies blew a five-run, ninth-inning lead, with relievers Tyler Kinley and Victor Vodnik (1-1) surrendering a total of seven runs. Kyodo
