College of St. Benilde prevailed over Letran, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21, for its second straight win in the V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge at the Paco Arena in Manila on Sunday night.
Weilyn Estoque scored 22 points on 19 attacks, two blocks, and an ace for the Lady Blazers, who joined the UP Lady Maroons and the FEU Lady Tamaraws in second place at 2-2.
Zamantha Nolasco contributed 10 points, including five blocks, while Mary Grace Borromeo had nine attacks and six receptions. Chenae Basarte made 13 excellent sets while Fiona Naomi Getigan had 12 digs.
“We're happy we won, but we still practice. There's a lot to do," CSB head coach Jerry Yee said.
The Lady Blazers hope to keep their momentum against the University of Santo Tomas (3-0) on Aug. 25 at 10 a.m.
"We try to maximize our practices, all-out effort and whatever happens, happens,” said Yee when asked about their game plan against the Golden Tigresses.
Sheena Vanessa Sarie finished with seven attacks and three blocks for Letran, which took its first loss in two outings.
Gia Marcel Maquilang and Marie Judiel Nitura added eight and seven points, respectively for the Lady Knights, who moved to within 16-18 in the third set, but the Lady Blazers relied on Rhea Densing and Estoque to wrap up the match.
Letran's next game is on Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. against University of the East, which also has a 1-1 record.
In the men's division, De La Salle University rolled to its fourth win at the expense of Ateneo de Manila University, 25-21, 31-29, 25-19.
In the other game, University of Santo Tomas defeated University of Perpetual Help, 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 23-25, 15-9.
The Golden Tigers and the Altas are tied for third at 2-2, behind the FEU Tams and the National University Bulldogs, both sporting 2-1 slates. The Blue Eagles are in fifth place at 1-3. (PNA)
