Globe and GCash signed an agreement with the Department of Social Welfare and Development to leverage technology as a watershed to improves the lives of Filipinos and promote positive influence at a social-structural level and a straight forward drive social change.
Technology has become an integral part of our lives. Indeed, technology has evolved as a powerful tool to drive social innovation and address critical social agendas by bridging societal gaps with innovative solutions.
In a tripartite collaboration, Globe and GCash mobile wallet operator G-Xchange, Inc. (GXI) have partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to harness technology to advance various humanitarian programs.
"Globe's purpose has always been anchored in using technology to collaborate and uplift the lives of Filipinos," Ernest Cu, president and CEO of Globe Telecom, said during the signing of the memorandum of understanding with the DSWD.
"A strong partnership is at the heart of a truly digital nation, and achieving a harmonious relationship in many ways is essential. Collaboration is crucial to uplift the lives of our kababayans by delivering government services to the most vulnerable communities," Cu added.
The DSWD, Globe, and GCASH partnership is a unified effort that merges telecom, mobile technology, and fintech services with social welfare initiatives to uplift the less fortunate and ensure timely and efficient public services. The parties aim to maximize the impact of their initiatives, ensuring that the advantages of digital connectivity and innovative solutions reach and benefit those in most need.
The partnership calls for a technology-driven social innovation to empower the marginalized communities that have faced numerous challenges and barriers that hinder their access to resources and opportunities. Under the partnership, Globe will use technology as a platform to amplify the voices of the marginalized and bridge the gap between the privileged and the marginalized.
"Globe's technology solutions will allow scale, transparency, and convenience in providing social services to those who need them most. This partnership is crucial in ensuring that government services can be delivered more efficiently through technology advancements, fostering active citizenship to assist marginalized sectors supported by the DSWD," Cu added.
"This collaboration significantly amplifies our capacity to serve society better. It stands as a testament to the transformative power of technology in driving social change. Such partnerships are pivotal in bolstering government efforts to provide enhanced social services in our increasingly digital world," said DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian.
Globe's multifaceted support
Through its initiative against involuntary hunger, the Hapag Movement, Globe is joining "Walang Gutom 2027," which aims to address involuntary hunger and improve national food provisions. Hapag Movement is also integrated into the DSWD's Sustainable Livelihood Program to uplift vulnerable communities through upskilling initiatives.
The company also contributes to the "Pag Abot Project," mobilizing its volunteers to reduce the vulnerabilities of urban poor communities, including children and indigenous peoples. The partnership extends to the "Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program," where Globe integrates digital literacy initiatives to enhance education for struggling sectors.
Likewise, Globe works with DSWD's "Buong Bansa Handa" program, integrating its Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging, and Libreng WiFi services, as well as the Globe Volunteerism Program to bolster the efficiency of significant disaster response hubs. It also provides toll-free communication support during disasters.
The collaboration also involves Globe's digital transformation efforts in "Paspas Serbisyo," aiding DSWD in employing digital innovations for smoother social welfare operations. Globe's involvement with the DSWD Academy, focusing on digital literacy and transformation courses, showcases a commitment to professional development in social welfare.
Other Globe initiatives include network enhancements in DSWD's areas of influence and leveraging Globe's telehealth solution, KonsultaMD, to improve DSWD's health services.
GCash's pioneering financial technology initiatives
Meanwhile, GXI brings financial technology expertise to promote financial inclusion alongside DWSD. Ren-Ren Reyes, President and CEO of GXI, said: "Integrating financial technology in social welfare is a game-changer. We are committed to empowering communities through innovative financial solutions."
GXI will support "Walang Gutom 2027" by exploring digital disbursement solutions to streamline the Electronic Benefit Transfer Card initiative. The GXI-Globe partnership will also explore the integration of the GCash Pera Outlet Program into DSWD's Sustainable Livelihood Program, enhancing livelihood opportunities and financial literacy.
GXI and DSWD will collaborate on digital disbursement solutions to deliver grants and assistance in protective programs and services. They will also explore integrating Globe's volunteerism program into DSWD-run facilities and establishing an institutional partnership with Globe for the World Day Against Child Labor, observed annually every June.
