A magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolted Catanduanes on Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The tectonic quake struck 76 km. northeast of Bagamanoc town at 5:19 a.m. It was 38 km. deep.
Intensity I was felt in Irosin, Sorsogon.
Phivolcs also recorded the following instrumental Intensities:
Intensity IV – Virac, Catanduanes; and City of Tabaco, Albay;
Intensity III – Mercedes, Camarines Norte; Caramoan, and Sagñay, Camarines Sur; and City of Sorsogon, Sorsogon;
Intensity II – General Nakar, Quezon; City of Legazpi, Albay; Daet, Camarines Norte; City of Iriga, Ragay, and Sipocot, Camarines Sur; and San Roque, Northern Samar;
Intensity I – Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte; Claveria, Masbate; Bulusan, Sorsogon; and Gandara, Samar.
Reported intensity is the traditional way of knowing the intensity based on reports of people who felt the earthquake.
Instrumental intensity, on the other hand, is measured using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs said aftershocks are likely but damage is not expected from the magnitude 6.1 quake. (PNA)
