RABAT – Morocco has moved one place up in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday.
The North African country climbed up from the 13th position to the 12th, after two victories against Zambia and the Republic of the Congo in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Once again, Argentina is on top, followed by France, Belgium, Brazil and England, while Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain, Croatia and Italy complete the FIFA top 10.
Nicknamed as the Atlas Lions, the Moroccan men's national football team maintained their position at the top of the African continental pecking, followed by Senegal (18th), Egypt (36th), Cote d'Ivoire (37th), Nigeria (38th) and Tunisia (41st).
Having finished in the fourth place and eliminated some Europe's football powerhouses such as Spain and Portugal, Morocco defied all expectations at the 2022 World Cup.
The North African country will host the 2030 World Cup alongside two European countries Portugal and Spain. Xinhua
