The Manny V. Pangilinan-led Metro Pacific Agro Ventures Inc. (MPAV) has announced plans to develop a 500-hectare corn plantation in Northern Samar as part of MVP's sustainable farming initiative.
Northern Samar's Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (PEDIPO) said Governor Edwin Ongchuan met with MPAV chief operating officer Toby Gatchalian and chief finance officer Reginald Gripal in Makati City to discuss possible collaboration.
"During the meeting, MPAV expressed its desire to secure 500 hectares of land in Northern Samar specifically for corn cultivation, to which the provincial government committed to assisting the company. This assistance centers around facilitating their ocular investigation and addressing bureaucratic hurdles as they establish their business in the province," PEDIPO head Jhon Allen Berbon said.
The provincial government is interested in partnering with MPAV, as the firm has set a remarkable precedent in sustainable farming. This is showcased by its greenhouses around the country, most notably the one in San Rafael, Bulacan, the largest hydroponic vegetable farm in the Philippines.
"This positions the company as an ideal partner for advancing the province's agricultural sector, sharing the sentiment of producing more with less," Berbon said.
MPAV is Metro Pacific Investments Corporation's agriculture arm, and it has been engaged in various farm ventures in the country.
Aside from MPAV, the province has also welcomed key investments such as Savemore Store by SM Group, common cell sites by Philtower Consortium, offshore wind power projects by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Aboitiz Infrastructure, and tidal energy projects by Energies PH Inc. This openness to investment signals a promising future for Northern Samar," the article stated.
