The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) is accelerating Basilan's Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Transformation Program to maintain the province's peace and development.
Approximately 400 MNLF combatants have undergone security paper validation and attended orientations from Oct. 12 to 13. This process ensures their eligibility for a comprehensive support package, including a cash-for-work program, membership in the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), and study grants for their children.
These benefits are included in the socioeconomic component of the MNLF Transformation Program.
The MNLF Peace Process Office has verified, validated, and profiled 1,963 members, empowering them and their next-of-kin to become beneficiaries of the Transformation Program. This program was designed to facilitate the transition of the combatants and their families into peaceful and productive members of society.
After qualifying, members receive P45,000 in financial aid and a food package from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Following the receipt of aid, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) studies the security papers of qualified MNLF members so that they can register for civil registration and obtain birth, marriage, and death certificates.
The qualified combatants received their PhilHealth IDs, validated their membership data record for their beneficiaries and dependents, and attended orientations to be knowledgeable about the premium health insurance and services available for them to utilize on Oct. 12-13.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided the combatants with orientation on the cash-for-work program. This program acknowledges the valuable contributions of the combatants to their communities, as they will be paid a wage rate for 15-30 days of work.
Around 58 students that are children of the qualified members have participated in validating them to qualify for the MNLF Study Grant Program. (Paula Valero)
