P500k bounty offered for info on Iloilo heist

ILOILO CITY– The city government and a group of business owners here are offering a PHP500,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of suspects in the robbery where around PHP1.5 million in cash was taken.

“A group of businessmen has informed me that they will be adding PHP250,000 as a reward for any information leading to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators of the Iloilo Supermart robbery, bringing it to a total of PHP500,000,” Mayor Jerry Treñas said on Wednesday.

Earlier, Treñas said he would give a PHP250,000 reward for the identification and capture of the perpetrators.

Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) report showed that the robbery in Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro branch of the Iloilo Supermart was discovered on the morning of Aug. 27.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the involvement of an organized group that possibly operates using methods similar to those of termite gangs to gain access to the target,” the ICPO said in a statement.

ICPO Director Col. Kim Legada told the chief of the Iloilo City Police Station 9 to intensify efforts, while intelligence operatives and investigators were directed to increase their activities and focus on swiftly solving the case.

“We urge anyone with information to share it with us. Your information could be crucial in bringing the perpetrators to justice,” Legada said.

Investigation showed that the burglars entered the establishment via a drainage leading to the old entrance and by making a hole in the concrete wall.

The vault containing the money was on the second floor of the establishment.

Among those recovered in the drainage area were a crowbar, a hacksaw, and a styrofoam box. (PNA)
