ILOILO CITY – The fire that partially burned the public market of the municipality of San Rafael in Iloilo province early Tuesday morning left an estimated PHP9.24 million worth of damage, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Initial information showed the fire started at the central portion at around 1 a.m. and engulfed 25 percent of the market.
Burned were three stalls on each of the first and second levels of the two-story market, four stalls at the covered structure at the center of the market, 16 vegetable stalls and three temporary stalls in the fish section.
“As of now, the investigation is still ongoing. We want to look into all possibilities and angles that could have caused the fire,” Iloilo Provincial Fire Marshall S/Supt. Bartolome Biliran said in an interview.
The fire reached the second alarm and was declared out around 4:08 a.m. (PNA)
