The PHP4.89 million road concreting project implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) enhanced the connectivity of the far-flung barangays of Pungsod and Buayahon in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
“This concrete road facilitates better access even to the remote areas in this central part of Iloilo, providing better mobility of people and convenient delivery of goods, as well as basic government services,” DPWH regional director Sanny Boy O. Oropel said in a statement on Monday.
The project covered the construction of a 408-lineal meter, 2-lane Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) road, including installing a Reinforced Concrete Pipe Culvert (RCPC).
Oropel said the project traverses along rice fields and other agricultural lands, making it beneficial, especially for rice and vegetable farmers and animal raisers when they bring their products into the market.
Most residents depend on income from farming and agricultural production for their source of living.
District Engineer Mario G. Soriano of the Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office that implemented the project said the paved road contributes to local economic development and growth and provides easy access to basic services and economic opportunities for an improved quality of life.
“With this concrete road, government services can reach even the remote areas in this town. People from the remote communities can easily access educational, social, and health facilities in the town and the neighboring Iloilo City,” Soriano said in a statement. (PNA)
