PBBM leads National Peace Consciousness Month celebration

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will kick off the National Peace Consciousness Month celebration on Monday to encourage Filipinos to rally behind the government’s peace agenda.

“So, on Monday, the President himself will officially open the National Peace Consciousness Month po sa Malacañang,” Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Director for Communications and Public Affairs Services Darwin Wally Wee announced in a news forum on Saturday.

The Chief Executive will also lead the commemoration of the 1996 Final Peace Agreement between the government and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).

“What we expect on Monday is the Moro leaders will express their support on the President’s Bangsamoro peace agenda,” Wee said.

Proclamation No. 675, issued by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, declared the month of September as National Peace Consciousness Month.

The theme for this year’s celebration is Transforming Minds, Transforming Lives.

“Our theme focuses on transforming minds, transforming lives. Why? Because we are no longer in a negotiation phase; we are already implementing all signed peace agreements,” Wee said.

“So, at the center of the implementation of the peace agreements is the transformation of the lives of the former combatants, their families and their communities po,” he added.

The OPAPRU official emphasized that beyond the festive activities, the Peace Month celebration will extend its impact further.

“What this means is that we are encouraging every Filipino to rally behind the peace agenda of the Marcos administration,” Wee said.

Part of the National Peace Consciousness Month celebration includes the ringing of the peace bell at the Quezon City Memorial Circle on Sept. 1, as well as the conduct of a Peace Education Summit, Peace Run, and Peace Concert. PND
