President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. vowed on Thursday that no one will be left behind under the “Bagong Pilipinas” amid the various challenges brought about by the El Niño phenomenon in the country.
In his speech during the distribution of aid to El Niño-hit farmers and fisherfolk in Iligan City, Marcos said the government will ensure to visit all parts of Mindanao and the whole country to ensure that aid will reach all including those in far-flung areas.
Marcos distributed a total of P168.82 million in financial assistance and extended various government assistance to fisherfolk and farmers in Northern Mindanao on Thursday as part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the effects of the El Niño.
Of the figure, P50 million each was distributed to the local governments of Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental; P24.36 million to Misamis Occidental; P13.92 million to Lanao del Norte; P10.54 to Iligan City and P10 million each to Cagayan de Oro City and Camiguin.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also provided P10,000 in financial assistance to 9,588 beneficiaries in Iligan City and 10,000 target beneficiaries in Cagayan de Oro City through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations Program.
Regional offices of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Health (DOH) also distributed assistance to the residents during the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair.
Speaker Martin Romualdez also provided five kilograms of rice to each of the affected in Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro City.
Use socmed to promote MSMEs
Marco also urged Filipinos to maximize the positive impact of social media to promote all aspects of the country’s tourism industry.
According to the President, the move will also help the country’s micro-, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
In his speech during the distribution of assistance to El Niño-affected farmers and fisherfolk in Iligan City, President Marcos said a simple post of one’s product, or the country’s tourist attraction reaches a wider audience on social media.
