President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said he will continue to advocate for inclusive, rules-based dispute resolution in his attendance to the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits this week.
The President made the assurance amid the continued dangerous maneuvers by the Chinese in the West Philippines Sea.
“As we continue to grapple with sharpening regional tensions, including the recent dangerous incidents in the West Philippine Sea, I intend to champion our advocacies in promoting an open, inclusive, and rules-based international order, and for the peaceful resolution of any disputes in accordance with international law,” President Marcos said in his departure speech in Pasay City.
President Marcos will be attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits from October 8-11 at the invitation of Lao Peoples Democratic Republic Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
Aside from the situation the WPS, the President said the ASEAN leaders are also expected to discuss other international issues that impact the region and beyond, including the situation in Myanmar and the conflict in Ukraine. | PND
