The Philippine Sports Commission joined in the celebration of the ASEAN Sports Day festivities held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia over the last weekend that mainly highlighted the traditional sports from member-states.
Among the indigenous games presented by the country were sunay spin challenge (trumpo), binnurang-itan, and kadang-kadang. A workshop was also conducted discussing how traditional sports can be preserved amidst modernization.
Executive Director Paulo Francisco Tatad and Focal Point for Senior Official Meeting on Sports (SOMS) Michelle Balunan led the national delegation among the occassion attended by countries such as Brunei Darussalam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Timor Leste, and host Indonesia.
To cap off the three-day activities, the country also joined in the 6km Fun Bike within proximity of the historic and sacred Prambanan Temple to express solidarity among the ASEAN Community.
