Get those raincoats and prepare to get wet.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) declared the wet season officially here on Wednesday after days of consecutive rain. This declaration is crucial as it prepares us for the weather changes ahead.
"The occurrence of scattered rain showers, frequent thunderstorms, the passage of Typhoon 'Aghon,' and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) over the past few days have brought significant rains over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas signifies the start of the rainy season in the country," Pagasa said in a statement.
In addition, Pagasa added that the high chance of La Niña conditions developing by the July-August-September period increases the likelihood of above-normal rainfall conditions in some areas of the country, especially towards the end of the year.
The weather agency has issued a warning to the public and all concerned agencies. They are advised to take precautionary measures against the potential adverse impacts of the rainy season, Habagat, and the impending La Niña. These measures are crucial to prevent or mitigate the effects of floods and rain-induced landslides.
However, it stated, "There may be breaks in rainfall that extend over a few days or weeks, also referred to as monsoon breaks."
"Pagasa will continue to monitor the weather and climate situation of the country," the statement said.
