PRO-6 boosts operational capability of W. Visayas police units

Updated: Jul 12

ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO-6) on Tuesday turned over firearms, vehicles, and equipment to selected units in the region to boost their operational capability.

PRO6 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky said the support from the national headquarters was meant to inspire the region’s police officers to do their job well.

“These are meaningful milestones for us in ensuring the safety and security of our communities. It reflects the PRO-6's commitment to equipping its units and personnel with the necessary tools to carry out their sworn duties effectively and efficiently to better serve the public,” he said during the turnover ceremony at the regional headquarters here.

The four new police stations under the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) received 100 units of 5.56 mm basic assault rifles, 3,600 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, 700 pieces of 30-rounder steel magazines, 100 pieces each of tactical slings, detachable forward grips, and cleaning kits.

Wanky said the four new police stations were among the first recipients following their recent activation by Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil.

“The activation was for us to be at par, be hand in hand with the fast development, such that the peace and order is not left behind. Through our leadership, we decided on activating four new stations,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Police Station in Janiuay, Iloilo also received one patrol jeep.

On the other hand, the Antique Police Provincial Office received one rescue boat (speed boat) and four units of complete dive equipment procured through Congress-initiated changes/adjustment funds for fiscal year 2023 to bolster its search and rescue capability.

“I urge all the recipients to use the equipment judiciously, maintain it properly, and make use of it to further better our services that benefit the public,” he said.

Wanky said Antique is expecting more patrol cars, and a van for the Special Weapons and Tactics team through the support of Senator Loren Legarda.
