DUMAGUETE CITY – A series of earthquakes rocked the southern towns of Basay in Negros Oriental and Hinobaan in Negros Occidental early afternoon Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The latest was a magnitude 4.5 earthquake which struck around 1:46 p.m. with a depth of 40 kilometers and was traced west of Basay town. It was earlier reported as 4.8 magnitude.
Around 1:30 p.m., a magnitude 2.4 tremblor was recorded west of Hinobaan, Negros Occidental, a town next to Basay.
All were of tectonic origin.
Adrian Sedillo, who heads the Negros Oriental Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said they are awaiting an official report from the Basay DRRMO.
No tsunami warning was issued for these coastal towns, he said. PNA
