Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla has announced a reward of P10 million for anyone who can provide evidence of his family's involvement in the operations of the so-called POGO Island in Cavite.
On Friday, Remulla broke his social media silence to offer the reward and dispel rumors connecting his family to the large-scale Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub situated on the former site of the Island Cove resort complex.
"I am willing to offer P10 million to anyone who can prove: 1) that we are involved in the current operations of the island, 2) that my office provides protection to these operations along with the Department of Justice (DOJ), or 3) that I or any family member signed any permit for the operation of POGO Island," Remulla, brother of incumbent Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, said in a Facebook post.
Various social media posts have linked the Remullas to POGO Island, especially in light of the scrutiny faced by Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo. Guo is being investigated for her possible ties to POGOs after a gaming hub was discovered behind the Bamban Municipal Hall.
Remulla clarified that his late father, Johnny Remulla, purchased the land in Kawit where the Covelandia resort was built in the 1970s. The leisure complex closed in 1985 but reopened in 1998. The Remulla family sold the property in 2018, paying taxes of around P400 million.
"We have not owned the former Island Cove for a long time," the governor stressed.
