Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Wednesday expressed his support and well-wishes to Filipino athletes competing in the prestigious Paris Olympics that will be held from July 26 to Aug. 11 this year.
He also thanked the Pinoy Olympians for bringing honor to the country and expressed his admiration for their dedication, strength, and outstanding achievements on the world stage.
“Each one of you has worked so hard and faced many challenges to get to where you are. You’ve shown great dedication and strength, and you carried our flag with pride on the world stage. Your stories inspire us all,” Romualdez told a delegation of Paris-bound Filipino athletes during a courtesy call at his office in the House of Representatives.
As a token of his appreciation and support for all Pinoy Olympians in their quest for gold, Romualdez provided financial assistance to each athlete amounting to PHP500,000.
“This is more than just a reward; it’s our way of saying we believe in you and are here to help you succeed in the future,” the Speaker said.
“Your success brings hope and joy to every Filipino. You have shown that with passion and perseverance, we can achieve greatness. You are a shining example for the next generation of athletes and all of us,” he added.
The Paris-bound Olympians were represented by John Ceniza, Eireen Ando and Vanessa Sarno, who are all competing in weightlifting, along with Joanie Delgaco who will represent the country in rowing.
They were led by Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas President Monico Puentevella.
Other Pinoy athletes who have qualified to compete in the Paris Olympics include EJ Obiena (pole vault), Carlos Yulo (gymnastics), Aleah Finnegan (gymnastics), Eumir Marcial (Boxing), Nesthy Petecio (Boxing), Aira Villegas (Boxing), Rosegie Ramos (weightlifting), Levi Jung-Ruivivar (gymnastics), and Samantha Catantan (fencing).
Romualdez said the Pinoy Olympians have inspired millions of Filipinos with their hard work and achievements, reminding everyone that with determination and effort, they can overcome any obstacle and reach their dreams.
He said the House of Representatives stands united in providing continuous support and resources to ensure Filipino athletes keep shining on the global stage and bring pride and honor to the country.
“We are here for you every step of the way. We believe in you and are committed to making sure you have the support and resources you need to continue shining on the world stage. Thank you for making us proud,” he said. PNA
