Romualdez lauds Singapore Red Cross for $50K donation for Carina victims

Speaker Romualdez commends, thanks Singapore Red Cross for $50,000 donation to typhoon victims

SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Sunday commended the Singapore Red Cross for donating USD50,000 (about P2.925 million) to victims of Super Typhoon Carina.

“I am sure that our people, especially those affected by the recent typhoon, deeply appreciate the kind gesture of our friends from Singapore,” he said.

“On behalf of our people and President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., thank you, Singapore Red Cross,” the leader of the 300-plus-strong House of Representatives said.

He said the assistance would certainly help ease the pain and suffering of the typhoon victims.

“I am sure that at some future time, we will reciprocate the kindness of our Singaporean neighbors and other friends who are helping us,” he added.

The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) donation will be coursed through the Philippine Red Cross.

In an announcement, the SRC said the money would be used to support its Philippine counterpart’s “emergency operations, providing essential assistance and relief to the affected communities.”

“The intensified rainfall, floods and landslides caused by the tropical cyclone have a devastating impact on families and communities. We are closely monitoring the situation and are in close communication with the Philippine Red Cross to ensure that our contribution provides the best support to the affected communities,” said Benjamin William, Secretary General/ CEO of the Singapore Red Cross.

Speaker Romualdez and his House colleagues, on their own, have been helping typhoon victims.

Last week, the House leader led in the distribution of relief goods in several areas in Metro Manila, including San Juan, Marikina, Navotas and Quezon City. (END)
