Senator Grace Poe said on Thursday that the controversy involving baggage delays at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 is unacceptable and should be resolved immediately.
"It's unacceptable that hundreds of luggage are stuck at the airport due to a technical glitch. A delayed flight is bad; a mishandled or delayed luggage is equally disappointing," Poe said.
"Whoever is responsible must address the matter urgently as what’s piling up in the airport are valuable passengers' belongings," she adds.
She said that a week was too long for the issue to be resolved and called for a refund for those who paid for their checked-in luggage, a requirement for airline companies.
"They deserve a refund and more for the trouble caused," she said.
An airline said on Tuesday that numerous passengers had been troubled by the baggage handling system (BHS) “technical issue” at Terminal 3 since Oct. 18, or a week from today.
Cebu Pacific (CEB) spokesperson Carmina Romero said that as of Oct. 22, around 800 bags were affected by the glitch or technical issue.
The new NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC), led by the San Miguel Corporation, eased the situation by guaranteeing the replacement of the 20-year-old BHS to minimize and prevent this situation from occurring again.
NNIC took over last Sept. 14 and is headstrong in changing, developing, and modernizing its systems.
